Why I teach Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a profoundly deep relaxation technique that allows the brain to enter the rejuvenating & healing deep sleep stage whilst remaining aware. This state of consciousness has almost endless benefits (mentioned below), as I have personally experienced. Of Yoga Nidra it is said to that "a single hour of yoga nidra is as restful as four hours of conventional sleep" According to Swami Satyananda (1998).

We are in a time where people have really forgotten how to relax yet, paradoxically, it is also a time when we need to relax more than ever as our bodies and minds are constantly bombarded by the effects of stress. Stress keeps our bodies in a constant low state of "fight or flight", the effect of this can be thought of in a similar way to leaving a tap running slowly but continually in a hard water area... have you looked inside your kettle recently? Stress raises blood pressure, heart rate, puts pressure on kidneys to process this additional workload, hinders proper digestion, lowers immune response, increases anxiety and sleep disorders and can contribute to gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, depression, stroke & heart attacks. Basically I can't think of any reason not to incorporate the healing transformative process of deep relaxation into day-to-day life. Out of all Yoga practices that I have experienced, Yoga Nidra has the most important benefits and this is why I teach it.
